GIVEN THE SPIRIT

Sue O’Donnell. 09.08.20

“Now He who establishes us with You in Christ and has anointed us is God, who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.” (2 Corinthians 1 v 21, 22)

What a blessing.

What a possession.

What a privilege.

Our entire status is changed,

Re-arranged and re-named.

We have been made into family,

The people of Christ Jesus,

God’s Son, come to bless us,

To possess us by His Spirit.

Christ Jesus gifts us a renewed identity.

“Salvation belongs to the LORD. Your blessing is upon Your people.” (Psalm 3 v 8)

A new identity in the Spirit, Jesus works

To make us holy.

Holy to the extent, which we

God’s family pray and strive for.

It is the Spirit who enables us

To know who the Lord Jesus is,

To see what He accomplishes

With us, in us and through us.

The Holy Spirit is life to us,

The life of Jesus, hopefully replicated.

“ ‘I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me’.” (John 14 v 6)

Holiness is a matter of choice,

Giving voice to the Spirit in us.

He who filled the Lord Jesus,

Can also fill us when praying.

Prayer makes all the difference in the world.

Prayer enables the Spirit to change us,

To make us daily more like Jesus,

He also is the perfect Man, entirely pleasing to God.

All according to the Spirit who is holy.

Do you realise what the Lord Jesus gifts us, especially in the Eucharist?

“Blessed be Jesus Christ, true God and true Man. Blessed be the most Sacred Heart. Blessed be the most precious Blood. Blessed be Jesus in the most holy Sacrament of the altar.” (From “The Divine Praises”)

Holiness is gifted when you lift your gaze to focus on Jesus!

Saved by Jesus in the sacrifice of the †,

We are then sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

He or she who has eyes to see, hearts to love,

Minds to think, plan and purpose,

Let us pursue the ways of Jesus,

Ever fully obedient to our Father’s preference.

Herein is our reverence too, aided by the Spirit,

The Spirit equips us for holiness through Jesus.

“Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.” (James 4 v 10)

“Yes, the LORD will give what is good and our land will yield its increase.” (Psalm 85 v 12)

Please pray.
